Луи Анри Буссенар (1847-1910) - французский писатель, классик приключенческой литературы, получил мировую известность после выхода в свет романа "Путешествие парижанина вокруг света" (1880). Головокружительный успех вдохновил автора, и приключения бесстрашного молодого француза, умеющего выбираться живым и сравнительно невредимым из самых немыслимых передряг, продолжились. В 1882 году появилась вторая часть трилогии - роман "Приключения парижанина в Океании" (в русском переводе выходил также под названием "Под Южным Крестом"), а в 1885-м третья - "Приключения в стране львов, в стране тигров и в стране бизонов".
